There really are very few museums and Estonian art galleries of note to be found within the city of Narva. The Town Museum really is the only one worthy of a mention and is housed within Narva Castle itself, offering an appealing mixture of both art works and history, with informative displays documenting the city's history from the 13th century onwards.

Also known as the Narva Museum, this attraction features many interesting theatrical and historical costumes, and various large oil portraits, which are spread around three wings. Another museum highlight is the Tower of Long Hermann, which is eight stories high and offers good views over the city.

The Town Museum contains a large and significant collection of Estonian and Russian art works, many of which date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum itself first opened its doors to the public in the summer of 1913 and at that time was actually the only provincial museum in the whole of Estonia. The 1930s saw the Narva Museum amalgamate with the Museum of Peter I, formally located within the Palace of Peter the Great, when portraits of many prominent citizens in Narva were added. Works by prominent locals can be found here and these artists include Aren, Burman, Jansen, Kalmus, Mugasto, Promet and Werber, amongst others. Historical artefacts are another of the numerous highlights here.
